CIJ day 2 / jour 2
Why do you think red
and green are the Christmas colors?
My
thoughts:
Green =
greenery = tree
Red = Santa
suit = Coke Santa
The real
reason (taken from the Internet): It
comes from European traditions and customs – when Christmas is in the middle of
winter and it’s dark and gray.
Green =
Holly, Ivy and mistletoe – we decorate to brighten up, to remind us that spring
is coming.
Red = Red
apple of the Paradise tree in the Garden of Eden. There used to be plays performed on Christmas
Eve and the Paradise tree and apples were featured.
I like the vintage Santa
ReplyDeleteInteresting - I've never heard of the red apple connection to the red of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about red. Is it too late to do Christmas in July? I can catch up :D
ReplyDeleteNEVER too late :)
DeleteThat's interesting... I never thought of where the Red/Green came from. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I have red apple ornaments on my tree and never knew why. I just liked the red color.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that about the colors. I'd of thought green for the Christmas tree as well.
