Christmas in July 2015 day 12 / Noël en juillet 2015 jour 12

CIJ day 12 / jour 12

Relaxation jar.  Use the big jars for this one.

Fill it with pampering articles : home spa treatments (I’ll put a few below this), scented candles, spa music cd, fluffy socks, scented soap (there are a few diy soap recipes when you go on google but I must admit they itimidate me… I’d have to see someone make soap before I’d try it),

In fact I plan a spa-day for myself this summer and her are the recipes I want to try and which can be put in small jars to add to the big jar.

Tumeric face mask (Source: http://www.healthyandnaturalworld.com/turmeric-face-mask/ )

1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon of raw organic honey
1 teaspoon of milk (or natural yoghurt)

Put turmeric into a little bowl. Add honey (honey can be used to prepare other homemade honey face masks that you can make at home). Then add milk or yogurt. You can adjust the amount of milk to make the paste more or less thick, but make sure it’s a firm paste that will stick to your face. Turmeric is a dye and it can stain anything, so you don’t want it dripping off your face.

If you have any mask leftover, you can save it in the fridge for a few days and use it the next time.

Let the mask dry on your face. This means leaving it on for about 20 minutes and then washing it off with cool water. Dry your face gently with a cloth.

Homemade chocolate coconut sugar scrub (Source: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2013/11/homemade-chocolate-coconut-sugar-scrub/#_a5y_p=1059230 )

Yield: makes about 1 1/2 cups (will fit in 3 (4-ounce) jars)

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup loosely packed brown sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil (in solid form)
1/3 cup almond oil
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
a few drops of coconut extract or essential oil

Directions:

Add all ingredients together in a large bowl and mix until combined. I like to mix with the back of a spoon until the coconut oil all breaks down and no chunks remaining. If desired, top the scrub with a few chocolate chips or cacao nibs before packaging.
To use the scrub, simply rub it over your skin and wash off! FYI: I do not use this on my face. I do use it on my lips though - so perfect! As long as you are using this once a week or every other, it should stay fine at room temperature.

Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Ingredients:
2 parts Coconut oil
1 part Olive oil (optional)

Directions:

Combine coconut and olive oil in a small bowl and mix well

Apply the mixture to your hair, focusing on the ends

Wrap hair in a bun on top of your head, cover with a shower cap and leave on for 15-30 minutes (depending on how damaged your hair is)

Rinse out in the shower

Shampoo and condition as usual

Cocoa Bath Salts (Source: http://www.classyclutter.net/2014/02/diy-warm-cocoa-bath-soak/)

1 cup of Epsom Salt – great for injuries, constipation relief, body aches and muscle cramps

1 cup of coarse Sea Salt – great for insomnia, eczema, stress reduction

1 Tablespoon of Unsweetened cocoa powder – helps to keep skin clear and hydrated

– Combine all ingredients in a glass or stainless steel bowl until mixed thoroughly.

Creamy Milk Bath

2 cups of powdered milk (whole milk is best)

1/2 cup of cornstarch – soothes and relieves dry, itchy skin

1/2 cup of baking soda – natural skin softener

– Combine all ingredients in a bowl until mixed thoroughly.

  1. I just won a jar of Coconut Citrus Scrub at a Bunco event. My daughter promptly took off with it and proclaimed it her all-time favorite scrub. I must get the recipe.

  2. I have made bath salts in the past and then just the easy melt and pour soap with scent in it.
