CIJ 2011 - Day 14

For me a great Christmas would be spent in a cottage with all my family (including parents & siblings). Now to rent one of those places you have to reserve a long time in advance. Things to be determined:
- Number of people
- Outdoor activities (snowshoeing, walk in the woods, ice-skating, sledding)
- Indoor activities (movies, board games, crafting)
- Family pictures are A MUST.
- Food (fondue, raclette or potluck), each family could bring 1 meal.
- PJ's for all - Christmas ones!
- Number of nights - I think 2 would be great
- Don't forget to bring a book to write down memories.
Any other ideas?

  1. Lucie that would be a wonderful Christmas experience...

  2. My parents lived in England, my sister and brother-in-law in Oregon and we lived in Chicago. My parents rented a cottage (house really as it had three bedrooms) in a quaint Yorkshire village and we all flew over from the States for Christmas 2001. My Mum had pretty strong ideas about what she wanted - the house had to have an open fireplace (a roaring fire at Christmas was a must), it had to be within walking distance to places to eat in case we didn't want to cook on a particular night (it was a tiny village but there were three pubs that served dinner and a tea room within walking distance), and close to a small shop to replace milk and bread as we ran out. I still have the holiday cottages rental book she used to select a variety to look at. My parents went up the day before to take all the groceries they bought and to make sure the owner had turned on the central heating! The house had a color tv, and was well stocked with games, books and magazines. There was a small Christmas tree and decorations and I was in charge of bringing stockings for everyone. For outdoor activities, there were lovely walks and the closest town was a short drive away for the supermarket. It was a magical holiday and just goes to show that a little planning really does pay off!

  3. Pamela that sounds like a wonderful experience. I would so love something like that.
